What is a smile makeover?
A smile makeover is not a single procedure. It is a treatment plan that brings together several cosmetic and restorative treatments to change the colour, shape, size or alignment of your teeth, and sometimes the gum line. The aim is a smile that looks natural, suits your face and works well when you bite and chew. Because every plan is personal, two people asking for a “smile makeover” may receive very different treatments.
Which treatments can a smile makeover include?
Depending on your teeth and goals, a plan may combine:
- Professional cleaning to remove stains and tartar before any cosmetic work
- Teeth whitening to lighten the natural colour of your teeth
- Composite bonding to repair small chips or close small gaps
- Veneers – thin shells bonded to the front surface of teeth
- Zirconia crowns for teeth that are broken, heavily filled or badly discoloured
- Gum contouring to even out an uneven gum line
- Orthodontic treatment to straighten teeth before restorative work
- Dental implants to replace missing teeth
Treatment usually follows a set order: decay and gum disease are treated first, teeth are moved if needed, whitening comes next, and crowns or veneers are made last so that they match the new shade.
What can I realistically expect?
A good smile makeover looks like healthy natural teeth rather than a uniform row of very white blocks. Very bright shades and long, thick teeth can look artificial, and some changes cannot be undone. It helps to bring photos of smiles you like – and ones you do not – to your consultation.
Results also depend on your starting point. Gum health, your bite, the position of your teeth, habits such as grinding and the amount of healthy tooth structure all affect what can be achieved and how long the result lasts. If your teeth are healthy, a plan that preserves as much natural tooth as possible is usually preferable to placing crowns on every tooth.
How is a smile makeover planned?
- You send photos and any recent X-rays for a preliminary review
- In-person examination of your teeth, gums and bite
- Discussion of your goals and your preferred shape and shade
- Digital scans and, where appropriate, a trial of the proposed shape
- Agreement on the treatment plan, its sequence and the number of visits
- Treatment, try-ins and final adjustments
How many visits and days does a smile makeover take?
It depends on which treatments are included, and we plan the appointments around your travel dates. As a general guide:
| Treatment | Typical trips | General time in Türkiye |
|---|---|---|
| Whitening, bonding, cleaning | One | A few days |
| Veneers or zirconia crowns | One | Around five to seven working days |
| Plans including implants | Usually two | Two stays, several months apart |
| Plans including orthodontics | Several | Months of treatment |
Your own plan may differ, and the exact schedule is confirmed after the examination. If orthodontics is part of your plan, ask how check-ups would work while you live abroad. Leave a spare day before your flight home for final adjustments.
Is a smile makeover reversible?
Some parts are, others are not. Whitening fades gradually, and bonding can often be adjusted or removed. Veneers and crowns, however, usually require removing part of the tooth surface permanently, so those teeth will always need some form of covering afterwards. Before you agree to any treatment that reshapes your teeth, make sure you understand why it is recommended and what the alternatives are.
How does treatment work at Rönesans?
Rönesans Diş Hekimliği in Serdivan, Sakarya, provides aesthetic dentistry alongside implant, orthodontic, root canal and prosthetic treatment. For straightening teeth, we also offer clear aligner treatment. We have an intraoral scanner for digital impressions, an air-polishing device that cleans with air, water and fine powder, and cone-beam CT (CBCT) for cases where implants are part of the plan. Crowns and prostheses are made with CAD/CAM at the dental laboratory we work with.
Our treatments come with a conditional warranty for problems not caused by the patient; before treatment starts, we explain at your examination how long it lasts, what it covers and what it does not. You can communicate with us in English or German and send your photos on WhatsApp at +90 532 363 49 54 for a preliminary review. The final plan is made after an in-person examination.
